Many of us have probably had to cancel a holiday abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the UK opening back up, have you thought about going on holiday in the UK? There are lots of beautiful spots, some that you may have never heard off or have always wanted to go to.

We have put together a list of 10 destinations across the length of the UK. So why not book a holiday on your home grounds and support local businesses during these difficult times?

Cotswold

About 2 hours or so from London, the Cotswold is an area of breathtaking natural beauty with picture perfect landscapes. It’s a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. As one of the most popular countryside destinations, you will find Old English Manors such as the Wood Norton, tiny hamlets, towns and rolling hills. 

Stonehenge

Possibly one of the most famous accident sites in England, Stonehenge is a spot on everyone’s bucket list. Be aware that Stonehenge is a very popular spot so if you’re not feeling too safe in crowds just yet, it’s best to plan your visit for more off peak times; which is either first thing in the morning or late afternoon.

Jurassic Coast

 

 

This mysterious and pre-historic sounding 95 mile coastline starts in Exmouth, East Devon and stretches to Swanage, Dorset. One very exciting activity that you can do is fossil hunting on the UNESCO protected coastline (living up to its name!). Due to the eroding cliffs, a range of fossils can be found along the beach.

Don’t forget to visit the famous Durdle Door and Old Harry’s Rock whilst you’re there and enjoy a bite to eat at some fantastic local cafés and restaurants.

 

Watergate Bay

Located in Cornwall, as soon as you arrive you will fall into that relaxing beach vibe and surfer & bodyboarding mood. This is a great destination for the whole family whether you enjoy sunbathing on the beach, long hikes, drinking and eating or shopping. This one is especially a great spot for sea lovers as it’s one of the best places for surfing.

Manchester

If you’re looking for a more lively day out or a weekend away, Manchester is a vibrant city with plenty to do. The Arndale centre has plenty of well-known shops as well as independent quirky shops plus lots of restaurants and bars nested around. If you’re looking for something a bit different, there a bar with old school arcade games, museums, art galleries, Old Trafford Football grounds and much more. You won’t run out of things to do in Manchester.

 

Isle of Scilly

Sounding like an Italian island, this Cornish Isle is made up of a few islands which look like a tropical paradise. With clear waters and white sandy beaches, this English Isle is more tropical than the rest of Europe due to the warm Gulf Stream which flows down from Florida and the Caribbean. So if you’re longing for your tropical getaway, book your flight over to this outstandingly beautiful and uncrowded hidden gem.

 

Inverness & Loch Ness

 

The Scottish Highlands is full of majestic mountains, mysterious lochs and stunning greenery. Inverness is the largest city in the highlands which makes it a great base for your highlands adventure. Rent a car and visit the finest Whiskey distilleries, Historical Treasures such as the Culloden Battlefield, go Dolphin spotting or even try and see if you can spot the famous Loch Ness Monster.

 

Edinburgh

Discover Scotland’s biggest city which is filled with an abundance of history, top quality attractions and beautiful architecture. With the city split into New Town and Old Town, you will be able to enjoy the medieval high streets and Edinburgh Castle with a more modern city just across the road.

Also whilst you’re there, you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to visit the Pandas at Edinburgh Zoo and learn about the incredible history of Scotland at the National Museum of Scotland (free admission).


Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

 

The Pembrokeshire coast highlights are Pembroke Castle, St David’s Cathedral and idyllic fishing harbours. You can explore the area on foot along the Pembrokeshire Coast National Trail where you will find villages like the Tenby; still partially enclosed by its medieval walls.

You will be able to find unique places to stay like classic old farm cottages, gypsy caravans and vintage railcars.

 

Portmeirion

Portmeirion is a beautiful hotel and visitor attraction on the coast of Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd, North Wales. Built between 1925 – 1975, the attraction was designed to resemble a quaint Italian fishing village. Guests of the hotel get the whole place to themselves at night once the gates close, the perfect time to talk around the grounds without the crowds.  Guided tours are available and the hotel restaurant comes highly recommended.
